URBAN GARDENERS, FARMERS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY GAP CERTIFICATION

23 April 2021 – City Councilor Philian Louise Weygan-Allan authored Resolution Number 173 series of 2021 “Encouraging Baguio City urban gardeners and farmers to practice environmental, economic and social sustainability for on-farm processes and to apply Good Agriculture Practice (GAP) Certification from the Department of Agriculture.”

The resolution encourages all the urban gardeners and farmers to practice and apply for the GAP Certification and to be GAP certified as they will benefit a lot on this. It also aims to ensure food safety and assure quality of agricultural products as well as the health of the workers, the safety and welfare being promoted and facilitated by the regulatory division of the Department of Agriculture.

The Philippine GAP has these four modules: food safety, quality produce, environmental management, and workers health, welfare, and safety.

The resolution stated that the local government should formulate and implement proper guidelines to include the said GAP modules especially for fruits and vegetables. – Kyla Camille K. Crisologo
