COUNCIL REQUIRES SUBMISSION OF MOBILITY PLAN

29 June 2022 – City officials want the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) to submit and present to the local legislative body the long-awaited mobility plan for transport, waiting shed designs in relation to the presence of the newspaper stand vendors and watch repair proprietors on the various sidewalks in the city.

Under Resolution No. 248, series of 2022, local legislators stated that a mobility plan is a strategic plan designed to satisfy the mobility needs of people and businesses in the city and to improve sidewalk safety in a sustainable way.

Earlier, the council adopted Resolution No. 242, series of 2022 which requests the City Mayor to extend the validity of the agreement earlier entered into by the City Permits and Licensing Division of the City Mayor’s Office and the newspaper stand vendors and watch repair proprietors from July to December 2022, or until such time that the CPDO has come up with concrete plans and agreements for a relocation for them to be accommodated in relation to the newspaper stand vendors and watch repair proprietors on the sidewalks of the city.

At present, the CPDO is currently working on the city’s mobility plan which is expected to be completed by next year prior to the implementation of the proposed relocation of the newspaper stand vendors and watch repair proprietors who had been doing business along the city’s sidewalks for a number of decades now.

The council requested the CPDO to first present the details of the mobility plan and to subject the same to the required information education campaign prior to its implementation.

The council had been requesting the concerned offices of the city government to extend the validity of the earlier agreement entered into by the City Permits and Licensing Division of the City Mayor’s Office and the newspaper stand vendors and watch repair shop proprietors because of the absence of the permanent relocation site for them to be accommodated.

Concerned newspaper stand vendors and watch repair shop proprietors had been requesting the concerned offices to allow them to temporarily stay in their designated areas while the city has not yet identified a permanent relocation site for them to be accommodated. – Dexter A. See
