road pedestrianization under study – mayor

BAGUIO CITY – The pedestrianization of Session road is under thorough study, as to business and traffic concerns, Mayor Mauricio Domogan clarified last week during the regular media Ugnayan at city hall.
Responding to a query, the mayor said the city’s main road’s pedestrianization has long been proposed at the council due to environmental, particularly air pollution issues, but opposed by the business community in the area.
The move was initiated in the city council sometime in the 90s and again in 2009 but was brushed aside due to “cleanliness, sewerage, security and safety,” issues.

Mayor stresses importance of disaster preparedness this rainy season

BAGUIO CITY - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG ASA) has declared that rainy season in the country has officially began due to the frequent southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat”.
With this development, Mayor Mauricio Domogan prompted barangay officials as well as citizens to be prepared for whatever calamity that might strike the city.

BAGUIO CITY – The Supreme Court’s April 23, 2014 decision invalidating the city council’s rescission of the city government-Jadewell Parking Systems Corporation contract did not authorize the parking firm to resume operation in the city, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said on Wednesday.
“It’s true that the decision affirmed the validity of our contract with them but it did not mention that Jadewell can reoperate in our city,” the mayor said.

Mayor convenes local inter-agency committee, status quo ordered on proclaimed lands

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan Wednesday convened the Local Inter-Agency Committee (LIAC) to expedite the disposal of proclaimed lands to qualified beneficiaries in this mountain resort.

The LIAC chaired by the mayor is created for the primary function of formulating and adopting rules and policy guidelines on the disposition of proclaimed lands within the jurisdiction of Baguio City.

Committee on Urban Planning, Lands, Housing and Relocation Sites chairman and Councillor Leandro Yangot, Jr. will serve as co-chair and action officer and the City Planning Office as secretariat.

BWD: no water shortage in city

BAGUIO CITY – the heavy downpour sweeping across the Cordilleras this month, bringing soaking rainfall in the city is a welcome sign for the Baguio Water District (BWD) here.

Finally, this dramatic shift has signalled the end of the hot summer month and the city’s watersheds will be recharged until the summer season next year.

BAGUIO CITY (June 12) – the city government spearheaded the simple commemoration of the 116th Celebration of Independence Day at the Baguio Convention Center here.

City Mayor Mauricio Domogan speaking before hundreds in attendance called on residents to look back in history to bring substance to the celebration of the nation’s freedom.

Domogan said, “116 years of the country’s independence to some can be hard to explain and even to understand and may even be looked-upon as only a ‘red letter’ day in the calendar.”

City fast-tracks titling of land needs areas

BAGUIO CITY – the city government is fast-tracking the titling of lots in this mountain resort to keep its records straight and to protect lands identified as city and barangay needs areas.

council wants city as forced intervenor in water permit applications

BAGUIO CITY – The city council wants the city to become the “automatic forced intervenor” in all applications for water permits before the National Water Resources Board (NWRB).
The body approved on Monday the proposed resolution of Councilor Faustino Olowan for the purpose.
Olowan in his measure stressed the need for the city to serve as intervenor in such applications in view of its “authority to safeguard and protect all natural resources within its imminent domain such as water which is very essential to life.”
