SCOFAD applications on
Applications for the Senior Citizen Official for a Day (SCOFAD) is on-going, with forms distributed and received at the City Social Welfare and Development Office, (CSWDO) Upper Session road.
The deadline for submission of accomplished forms and supporting documents is on September 14, 5PM at the same office.
According to Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) head Isaias Barongan, 58 executive and legislative, regional line agency positions could be assumed for office by the elderly officials on October 1.
The screening committee looks over the applicant’s education, job history, personal quality and character traits, achievements and accomplishments, community involvement and service with at least five awards received, for the appropriate position.
A SCOFAD applicant must be a Baguio resident for at least three years, and member of a Senior Citizen organization for three years. The organization must be accredited by the CSWDO or Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The selected SCOFAD must be present for the City SCOFAD day; and only one elderly member per family is qualified per year.
The positions of Congressman, Mayor and Vice-Mayor could only be occupied once, and the SCOFAD official could no longer apply for a lower postion, it was clarified during the steering committee meeting.
For the positions of councilor, department head or line agency regional director; only two terms are allowed.
The elderly official assumes office after screening and selection; visits and observation, orientation and oath-taking. A post evaluation activity follows.
The SCOFAD is part of the celebration of elderly month in the month of October.
Other activities slated are the walk for life during the first week; the awarding of outstanding senior citizens; sportsfest for the elderly, positive attitude development, and health and nutrition seminar for wellness.
A renewal of vows for 20 elderly couples who have stayed together for forty years has been planned, the venue and details to be announced at a later date.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Kilalanin at Parangalan, tagapagsulong ng Karapatan ng Nakatatanda tungo sa Lipunang Mapagkalinga.”-juliegfianza with reports from the CSWDO
