Sanitation code committee proposed
BAGUIO CITY – The city council last week has approved on first reading and referred to the appropriate committee the proposal of Councilor Philllian Weygan-Allan to create a committee for the city’s sanitation code.
According to Councilor Weygan-Allan, a city code is needed for sanitation concerns, issues and the promotion of healthy living, some of which have been passed in the council.
If the proposal is approved, the committee shall codify the existing city ordinances and resolutions; to a resulting Sanitation Code of the City of Baguio.
The drafting committee shall then gather data, write and edit the proposed code, hold consultations with stakeholders, submit to the council for appropriate action the drafted code. It should also make the general public aware of such implementation. The drafted code should be in compliance with national sanitation laws.
The committee members should be in direct supervision on sanitation concerns, such as the Department of Health, City Veterinary, City Environment and Parks Management Office, and the Market Supervisor. Other members are the Sanggunian Panlungsod (SP) committee on Health, Sanitation and Environment, SP secretary and staff, and a non-government representative.
Funding requirements of Five Hundred Thousand Pesos shall be appropriated for payment of data gathering, consultation, writing and publication.
The code is anchored on PD 856, the Code of Sanitation of the Philippines which was signed in 1975.
The proposed ordinance for the committee is expected to be tackled after thorough study. – juliegfianza
