Orange icon hits the city

The city hall façade turns orange from Nov. 25 to Dec. 12 this year in support to the 18-day End Violence Against Women (VAW) campaign.

In a letter to Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Venus Tan pointed out that November 25 is declared as “National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and their Children.”

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) thus launched the Orange Your Icon for 18 days with the support of government and non-government organizations, including the tourism sector. The DOT, attached agencies thru the Inter-agency Committee on Gender and Development Focal Point System adopted and sports the color orange in national and regional tourism sites in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Said action brings awareness and consciousness on VAW as a public issue, and city hall is selected as entry to the campaign “being one of the most iconic structure and symbol in the city,” Tan’s letter stated.

The General Services Office and City Buildings and Architecture Office were directed by the mayor to install the said lights for 18 days. - juliegfianza
