Easter Sunrise Service at Malcolm Square, slated

The city government through the Baguio Character Council (BCC) and Baguio-Benguet Ecumenical Group (BBEG) will conduct an Ecumenical Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday, April 16, starting 4:45 am at Malcolm Square with the theme, “He is Risen! Hallelujah!”.

The religious service is part of this year’s Summer Vacation (Sumvac) in Baguio activities.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan, BCC chairperson, said the wholesome family event for local residents and visitors aims to encourage and build stronger and better families, sustain efforts in building an eternal family unit and providing physical and spiritual needs.

“We must learn to love and serve one another, observing and abiding God’s commandments in order to become good citizens,” he added.

Acting city human resource management office head and BCC action officer Edith Dawaten said Bishop Rodolfo Juan of the Davao Episcopal Area is the guest of honor and speaker. The Mayor will also deliver a message while councilor Elmer Datuin, co-chair of Sumvac 2017, and city administrator Carlos Canilao, will give the welcome and closing remarks, respectively. Opening remarks is by former councilor Philian Weygan-Allan of the BBEG.

Congressman Mark Go will lead representatives from various churches, religious groups, private sector and government offices in the reading of selected Bible passages. Pastor Arnold Santonia of the Light of the World Christian Center will deliver a Prayer of Thanksgiving.

Musical renditions will be performed by John Gaerlan, Gateway Community Church, St. Paul Episcopal Church, Zion Church, Hallelujah Chorus and the Baguio City Police Choir.-gaby keith
