Earth Hour on March 25
In his recent Administrative Order No. 028, mayor Mauricio Domogan enjoins all the citizenry of Baguio, business sector, government officials and employees to be part of the “Earth Hour 2017”.
The city environment and parks management office headed by Cordelia Lacsamana will be the forefront in drumming up the celebration of the “2017 60 min+ Earth Hour” on March 25, Saturday from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
The city of Baguio will host a “LED and Dance of the Gongs March” from Post Office Session Road down to Abanao Street and end at the City Hall for a culminating program.
The march will be participated in by cultural groups, ethnic dance troupes from schools and academe and other sectors, stressed Domogan.
In the order, “the city of Baguio being a consistent partner of the World Wide Fund for nature, Philippines (WWF) together with several countries worldwide is celebrating 2017 60+ Earth Hour with a theme “Shine a Light on Climate Change”. Simple and doable activity includes the switching off or dim the non-essential lights at homes, street lights, signages and key monuments on March 25 from 8:30 PM for one hour and pledge to go “beyond the hour” by publicly promoting renewed ways and practices of initiating change to include environmental protection/actions that offices and individuals are willing to undertake throughout the year”.
“The Philippines is one of the 178 countries in the world that signed the “Paris Global Climate Deal of 2015” ensuring an emission reduction of 70% by 2030. This global campaign will visually present the need for every Filipino to take action today as climate change affects people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures”.
Domogan stressed, the city government is doing its share in fighting climate change, thus, there is a need for the people of Baguio to unite to have a common action to protect and conserve the environment and fight climate change. *Jho Arranz
