Children’s month activities
Activities focused on the well-being of the young through the City Council for the Protection of Children (CCPC) shall be undertaken for the whole month of November.
November is celebrated as National Children’s Month coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the United Nation convention on the rights of children (UN CRC), adopted in Nov 1989.
In the city, hanging of tarpaulins bearing the NCM logo, in the barangays, schools and agencies start Nov. 1, while children got talent programs in the district and barangay levels are from Nov. 1 to 18.
The NCM kick-off program happens during the city hall flag-raising ceremony, Nov. 4.with messages to be delivered by Mayor Benjamin Magalong; Social Services, Women and Urban Poor Council Committee Chair Lilia Farinas; and other children services advocates.
A Kapihan focused on basic children concerns including survival, development, participation and protection, with concerned authorities as panelists happen at the City Social Welfare and Development Office on Nov. 5.
A lecture on protective behavior (The good and bad touch, and dental care) is given for Baguio Central School grade 1 pupils by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Women and children’s desk, on Nov. 5.
Orientation on child-related laws and ordinances in different barangays and schools through the BCPO-WCPU, and the conduct of Children’s summit/forum run for the whole month.
Reproductive Health Forum and Film viewing for grade 6 pupils in identified schools are given by the Health Services Office (HSO) and the Department of Education (Dep-Ed) on Nov. 7-8, 14-15, 21-22; with a Wushu Sanda Expo/Showcase on Nov. 13-15 at Camp 7, Wushu Gym.
A two-day training of Service Providers on the case management of child abuse cases shall be done through the Child and Family Services (CFSPI) at Manzanillo subdivision, Easter Road.
On Nov. 16, a one-stop free services: occupational and speech therapy consultation, psychological consultation legal advice/affidavits/notary services: dental services; basic medical check-up is done at the CICM Home Sweet Home compound, Gov. Pack road.
Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and their dependents undergo lectures on no smoking/vaping on Nov. 19 to 25; with a read-a-book (to children of PDLs) on Nov. 24 to 30 at the Baguio City Jail.
On Nov. 23, the city level Children Got Talent is showcased with contestants from the barangay winners.
On the last Sunday of November, a fun run, Run for hope is conducted at Burnham Park spearheaded by the Saint Louis University and Sunflower Children and Youth Wellness Center.
With the Health Services Office, a Bonjing Fair happens in identified 7 high schools on Nov. 28-29 and Dec.2-3.
The culminating ceremony is tentatively slated on Nov. 29 at the multi-purpose hall, with a children’s mardigras along the city’s main thoroughfares and cultural presentation and showcase of talent in CFSPi, Manzanillo subdivision, Easter road.
This year’s theme is “Karapatang Pambata: Patuloy na Pahalagahan at Gampanan
