Baguio’s SUMVAC committee re-organized
So as to sustain the city of pines being the Summer Capital of the Philippines and one of the best summer destination, mayor Mauricio Domogan last week re-organized the working committee for the summer vacation in Baguio 2017(SUMVAC).
SUMAC in Baguio is an institutionalized activity of the city government here in partnership with the different government agencies, non-government organizations, the private sectors, and people’s organization.
In the recently issued Administrative Order No. 014, the mayor spelled out the composition of the working committee as well as the various program committees so as to come up with a comprehensive management plan to include all the desired events lined up by various sectors for the whole duration of the SUMVAC to maximize the tourism potentials to be derived from the conduct of the event.
The executive committee is chaired by Domogan with congressman Marques Go as honorary chair, vice mayor Edison Bilog as vice chair and sangguniang panlungsod committee on tourism and special event chair and councilor Elmer Datuin and city administrator Carlos Canilao as action officers.
Moreover, chairing the various working committee to complement the SUMVAC operations this year includes coun. Peter Fianza for the Araw sa Kagitingan, Liberation of Baguio and Kafagway; coun. Datuin for the Summer Arts Expo, Cultural and Baguio Musical Festival, National and Regional Summer Tourism program, Summer Sports activities; city health officer Rowena Galpo for the Summer Health and Environment programs; Public Employment Services Office (PESO) manager Jose Atanacio for the Job’s Fair and labor Day activities; city administrator Canilao for the Communications Groups, Peace, Security and Traffic Assistance; Helen Tibaldo of the Philippine Information Agency for the Media Relations Search for Lucky Summer Visitors; coun. Arthur Allad-iw for the church and Holy week activities, coun. Michael Lawana for Barangay Fiesta; city buildings and architecture officer Nazita Bañez for the Streamer Road signs’ maintenance, city general services officer Romeo Concio for the physical arrangements and logistics; and the office of the city administrator as secretariat.
The committee chairpersons will prepare the guidelines that would ensure the success of the programs.
Among the traditional activities lined up for the SUMVAC include the Philippine Military Academny graduation rites, observance of Holy Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Aliwan Fiesta, celebration of the Baguio Liberation Day, Labor Day and Sabsabong ti Mayo.
Apart for the said traditional activities, numerous events are being proposed for the inclusion in the activities for the SUMVAC to sustain the conduct of a wide array of activities that will attract and draw the influx of domestic as well as foreign visitors to the city this summer season. *Jho Arranz
