7 Baguio barangays with complete SK candidates

Some seven barangays in the city have a complete list of aspiring candidates for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons and members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) for the upcoming the May 14, 2018 synchronized barangay and SK elections, an official of the city’s Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said here recently.

However, City Director Evelyn B. Trinidad disclosed that 9 barangays in the city have either no candidates for SK chairpersons and KK members or incomplete candidates for the said positions that should be filled up during the upcoming political exercise.

The 7 barangays with complete SK chairperson and KK member candidates are Asin Road barangay, Brookside barangay, Brookspoint barangay, Camp 8 barangay, Imelda Village barangay, Pinsao Pilot Project and San Luis Village.

On the other hand, the 9 barangays with no SK candidates for both elected positions or incomplete number of candidates include Bagong Lipunan, Camp Filipino, Guisad Sorong, Hillside, Malcolm Square, Phil-Am barangay, Rizal Monument barangay, Sta. Escolastica and Sto. Rosario Valley barangay.

Of the 119 barangays that have candidates for SK chairpersons and KK members, the DILG official revealed that 44 barangays have unopposed SK chairpersons while 74 barangays have contending aspirants for SK chairpersons.

The barangays with unopposed SK chairpersons are Andres Bonifacio-Caguioa-Rimando (ABCR), Ambiong, North Central Aurora Hill, South Central Aurora Hill, Bakakeng Central, Marcoville, Balsigan, Cabinet Hill-Teachers Camp, Camdas Subdivision, Camp 8, City Camp Central, Country Club Village, Cresencia Village, DPS Compound, Ferdinand Marcos barangay, Lower Gen. Luna, Guisad Central, Happy Homes-Old Lucban, Harrison-Carantes, Imelda Marcos, Loakan Liwanag, Lourdes Subdivision Proper, Lualhati, Lucnab, Upper Magsaysay, East Modernsite, West Modernsite, MRR-Queen of Peace, New Lucban, Outlook Drive, Pucsusan, Quezon Hill Proper, Upper Quezon Hill, Lower Quezon Hill, Lower Rock Quarry, Middle Rock Quarry, St. Joseph Village, San Antonio Village, San Roque Village, South Sanitary Camp, Sto. Tomas School Area, Session road-Gov. Pack road, South Drive and Trancoville.

Trinidad disclosed that the unfilled positions will be filled up through special elections funded by the local government in coordination with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) but guidelines are still to be issued by the concerned agencies to ensure the sufficient participation of the youth in governance.

She claimed that right after the elections, all the winning candidates will undergo an 11-day mandatory training pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 10742 or the SK Reform Act before they will be allowed to take their oath of office and subsequently select the SK federation president of the city on May 29, 2018 right after their mandatory leadership training so that they will be able to proceed with their work as the city’s youth leaders. -  Dexter A.
