3,688 jobs open for Kalayaan jobs fair
Some 3,688 overseas and local jobs are up for grabs for jobseekers in the upcoming Kalayaan jobs fair on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Porta Vaga mall.
Exequiel Ronnie Guzman, regional director of the Cordillera office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-CAR), said that 6 participating overseas employment agencies will be offering some 2,873 vacant in different countries while 25 local companies that includes 3 contractors in the government’s Build, Build, Build program will be making available some 815 jobs for the interested jobseekers.
Among the top local job vacancies include customer service representatives, sales representatives, cashiers, teachers for English as Second Language, sales associate, food and beverage staff, baggers, warehouse staff, maintenance staff and bookkeepers while those available for overseas work are nurses, waiters and waitresses, cleaners, nursing aide, electricians, technicians, caregivers, English teachers, production or machine operators, technicians or mechanical and electrical technicians.
The top countries where the overseas jobs are available are Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Singapore, Kuwait and Qatar.
Prior to the jobs fair, organizers will be conducting a pre-registration of interested jobseekers on June 7 and 8 at the Peoples Park and June 7-9, 2019 at the entrance of Porta Vaga mall.
Further, a whole day business forum spearheaded by the Cordillera office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-CAR) will be conducted at the CRC Hall within the Bishop’s Residence simultaneous with the conduct of the jobs fair on June 12, 2019 to provide interested entrepreneurs to be acquainted with the business atmosphere in the areas where they intend to put up their businesses.
On the other hand, businesses in the Porta Vaga mall will be offering in-store discounts to shoppers as their show of support to the government’s Diskwento caravan program for them to purchase affordable items at reasonable cost.
Interested jobseekers were advised to be at the venue as early as possible and bring with them multiple copies of their documents for submission to the companies they intend to apply to during the whole day event.
More importantly, jobseekers were reminded to be in proper attire and ready in cases of on-the-spot interviews by their prospective employers.
Based on data obtained from the Cordillera office of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-CAR), the total labor force in the region is 1,286,000 while the labor force participation rate is 61.6 percent or 792,176 wherein there is a 95.1 percent employment rate or 753,359 individuals that are employed.
Moreover, the region has a 16.3 percent under employment rate equivalent to 122,797 while unemployment rate is 4.9 percent equivalent to 38,817 individuals that are not working. - Dexter A. See
