BCC: Protection of watersheds and forest reserves a priority

BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio Centennial Commission(BCC) is making steps in facing critical issues which will safeguard centennial legacies from deterioration.

This was barred by Vice Mayor Daniel Farinas as he proposed an ordinance adopting the draft resolution of the BCC recommending strategic actions for the rehabilitation and protection of watersheds and forest reservations as part of the Centennial Legacies of Baguio City.

Experimental traffic scheme for la Trinidad jeepneys, feb. 1

BAGUIO CITY – With the opening of Panagbenga this Monday, Feb. 1, is the implementation of the experimental traffic scheme for public utility vehicles using Magsaysay avenue as trunk line.
As to Administrative Order 11, of 2010, issued last week by Mayor Reinaldo Bautista, Jr., all public utility jeepneys from La Trinidad and beyond shall use Slaughterhouse compound as a turn-about terminal. The move has been pending for years now, with the completion of engineering works to provide access.

BAGUIO CITY – Vice Mayor Daniel Farinas has pushed for the adoption of the draft resolution of the Baguio Centennial Commission recommending strategic actions for the rehabilitation and protection of the watersheds and forest reservations as part of the centennial legacies of the city.
In a proposed resolution, Farinas said that city should support the measure as it addresses the same concern that the city has prioritized in its developmental thrusts which is the protection of watersheds and forest reservations.

Council majority backs CLO’s P13-M court ticket to collect P652-M BCDA debt

BAGUIO CITY – It’s all ‘green light’, save for the formalities, for city legal officer (CLO) Melchor Rabanes to embark on a historic quest for the city to finally secure its P652.6-million lease shares from the development of Camp John Hay (CJH).

BAGUIO CITY – Vice Mayor Daniel Farinas has sought the creation of the Baguio City Parks Management and Development Authority (BCPMDA) to manage parks in the city.
Farinas said a centralized body is needed to oversee the parks to advance plans and initiatives in the pipeline for the improvement of these recreation centers.
He said this is to also preserve these parks which are among the centennial legacies of the city government as these promenade spots “symbolize the city’s beginnings as a rest and recreation center.”

BAGUIO CITY – Ten city councilors last week expressed support to the Burnham Park Fencing Committee (BPFC) over the fencing project it implemented along Harrison Road , albeit with some qualifications.

In an unofficial survey, aldermen Richard Cariño, Rocky Thomas Balisong, Isabelo Cosalan, Erdolfo Balajadia, Fred Bagbagen, Antonio Tabora, Jr., Nicasio Aliping, Galo Weygan and Joel Alangsab placed their foot down in favor of the BPFC led by Baguio prelate Carlito Cenzon.

Mayor suspends classes February 1

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Reinaldo Bautista, Jr. ordered the suspension of classes for elementary and high school levels come February 1.

Bautista’s aim is to provide students the full opportunity to take part in the Panagbenga 2010 opening parade.

It is participated by various sectors of the community including the different schools in the city but we are leaving the decision to CHED for the college level, Bautista said.

We are encouraging our students and their parents to participate in this event, this parade is especially for the locals, he said.
