new technology touted to solve city’s waste woes

BAGUIO CITY – City officials are bullish over a new waste technology that promises to totally solve the city’s problems on collecting, hauling and disposing garbage that have hounded the city for a long time now.
Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. Thursday formally accepted the proposal of MacKay Innotech Philippines Inc. for a municipal solid waste (MSW) waste conversion technology that will take charge of collecting, dumping, processing and converting wastes into raw energy at a contract volume of 150 metric tons a day at a rate of P1,500 per ton as hauling and tipping fee.

Smoke Belchers Beware

BAGUIO CITY – City streets traversed by smoke belching vehicles is getting smaller.

Mayor Reinaldo Bautista, Jr., this week said all smoke belching vehicles caught will have to fix their cars or risk being caught.

In his weekly Ugnayan Program, Bautista said, drivers whose vehicles are flagged by the Road Side Inspection, Testing and Monitoring Team (RITMT) and fails tests will be apprehended.

It would be impossible for them to get their licenses or plates released unless they comply with regulations. This will stop them from polluting the air in Baguio City, he said.

BAGUIO CITY – The Office of the Ombudsman has found enough basis for administrative investigation of the case filed by the city government for grave misconduct and gross neglect of duty against the commissioners of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) responsible for the award of Forbes Park forest reservation lots to private applicants.

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. appealed anew to residents here to segregate their wastes to help in the city’s waste management efforts.

            The mayor said the city government through the city environment and parks management office will continue to collect wastes on schedule but residents are expected to do their share by segregating their wastes at their households to facilitate the disposal of the refuse.

dads peg budget at P1.57B

BAGUIO CITY – The city council on Monday approved the income component of the city budget which pegged the city’s 2010 budget at P1,057,183,000.

Vice Mayor Daniel Farinas said the expenditure aspect will be tackled next after questions on the proposed budgets of the each of the 28 departments in the city government have been resolved.

The approved amount is higher by P15 million than the proposed executive budget of P1,042,183,000.
